Rotala ramosior 'Florida' is a rare and striking North American native stem plant, celebrated for its uniquely purple to pink coloration, especially under intense lighting and CO₂-enriched environments. Unlike many Rotala species which display orange or red hues, this variety develops lavender, magenta, or deep pink tones, making it a standout centerpiece in any aquascape. It has narrow, lanceolate leaves arranged in an opposite pattern along upright stems, providing both vertical structure and vivid color.

In aquascaping, Rotala ramosior 'Florida' excels in midground to background placements, where its coloration and form can be fully appreciated. Its upright growth and well-spaced nodes give it a more open, airy appearance compared to denser Rotala species, making it ideal for use in Dutch-style color streets or as a vertical accent in Nature Aquarium layouts. With careful trimming, it can be encouraged to bush out modestly, though its natural habit remains more columnar.

This plant requires high lighting and CO₂ injection to reach its full potential, especially to bring out its signature purple/pink coloration. Soft, slightly acidic water (low KH and GH) enhances pigmentation, and consistent fertilization with micronutrients—particularly iron—is essential for vibrant leaf development. It is sensitive to shading and water parameter swings, making it better suited for stable, well-maintained tanks.

Care Tips:

  • Substrate: Nutrient-rich substrate supports healthy rooting; root tabs optional.

  • Lighting: High lighting is essential to produce vibrant pink and purple coloration.

  • pH: 5.5–6.8 (soft, slightly acidic water preferred)

  • Nutrients: Medium to high; requires consistent iron and micronutrients.
