Hygrophila Pinnatifida 'UK'
Hygrophila Pinnatifida 'UK'
Hygrophila Pinnatifida 'UK' is a unique and striking variant of the popular aquatic plant, native to the Uttara Kannada district of India. The "UK" in its name stands for Uttarakannada, referring to its origin and not to the United Kingdom as is sometimes mistakenly believed. This plant is known for its beautifully lobed, pinnate leaves that range from olive-green to a deep reddish-brown on the underside, depending on the conditions in which it's grown. The deeply serrated leaves and creeping growth habit make it a standout in aquascaping, where it can spread over rocks, wood, or the substrate, providing a natural and textured appearance.
Hygrophila Pinnatifida 'UK' thrives in a variety of aquascaping styles, from Nature to Dutch setups. This plant is particularly valued for its ability to add both color and texture, contrasting beautifully with more traditional plants like Anubias or mosses. It is commonly used in the midground due to its moderate height and bushy growth when well-trimmed. Its unusual form makes it an excellent option for filling gaps between hardscape elements or adding layers to a planted aquarium. The plant is relatively easy to maintain as long as it is provided with moderate to high lighting and nutrient-rich conditions, including CO2 supplementation to enhance its color and vigor.
